Includes a distressed label, now barely legible;  and an incomplete letter received by John Vine Hall from Captain Blane, 8 August 1876. The letter reads: `From Captain Blane. My dear Capt. Hall Pray accept my sincere thanks for the painting sketch of Darling Point, that I got today when coming to the club. I think it so like the place that I could almost fancy I was standing on the very spot that I was so much struck with, the first time I saw it. I shall have it mounted and framed as it will always recall the beauties of the scenery of Sydney and at the same time pleasing recollections of my colleagues and companions on our cruize together'.
