John James Vial, bricklayer of St. Peters, New South Wales, enlisted at the age of 20, 14 Sept. 1914 and embarked from Sydney on Transport A19 Afric, 18 Oct. 1914. He served with 1st Battalion, D Company in Gallipoli and was wounded there, Aug. 1915. He was severely reprimanded for being asleep on duty, 8 Jan. 1916 and hospitalised in Tel-El-Kebir...
