Administrative / Biographical history

Edward Charles Close, who arrived in NSW in 1817 with the 48th Regiment, was transferred to Newcastle in the early 1820s to supervise engineering works there. He resigned from the army in late 1822 to settle on his land grant, Illulaung, near Morpeth where he lived till his death in 1866 -- Reference:
