Philip Gidley King came to New South Wales with Captain Arthur Philip in 1786, and in February 1788 was appointed superintendent and commandant of Norfolk Island. Later he succeeded Hunter as Governor of New South Wales. His son, Phillip Parker King joined the navy, and rose to the rank of Admiral. On his retirement he became managing commissioner...
