The Exeter pocket-journal; or, West-Country gentleman and tradesman's memorandum-book for the year of our Lord 1755. [electronic resource] : Of general use to all persons, but more especially to the inhabitants of, or those who have dealings or commerce in, the Western counties: containing, I.The proper heads for a weekly account throughout the year, ruled with convenient partitions for memorandums of business done, and appointments of what is to be done, either in business or pleasure; and convenient columns for entring receipts & payments, or keeping a cash-account by way debtor and creditor; by which, on restrospection, any past transaction may be easily seen and remember'd. Also the number of days and of full. Weeks from the beginning to any given. Time of the year, for expediting the computation of rents, interest, wages, &c. II. Tables of the values of any number of Portugul pieces, Louisd'ors, and Pistoles; an table of foreign coins; standard for gold; table of spceific gravities; an universal table of simple interest at all rates; and another for the valuation of annuities for years absolute from 3 to 6 per cent. with other tables and rules for computing expences, wages, prices of goods sold by the great hundred, &c. III. An account of the Devon and Exeter hospital, Sun-Fire-Office for Insurance, and of the transfer days and payments at the bank, and the South-Sea and East-India Houses. IV. The regal table from the conquest; a compleat list of the Bishops of Tawton, Crediton, & Exeter, as also of Cornwal (when a bishop's see was fix'd there) from the establishment of those sees to the present time: together with lists of the deans of Exeter, sheriffs of the counties of Devon and Cornwas, mayors and sheriffs of Exeter, & members of Parliament for the said counties and the said city of Exeter, from the restoration to the present time. V. Accounts of the post-roads from Exeter, rates of postage, coasting ships between Exeter and London, with the names of the owners, and at what wharfs they unload; stage-coaches, bye-coaches, post-chaises, saddle-horses, and carriers, with the places where they put up, and at what time they set our from, or arrive in, Exeter, London, &c. VI. An exact account of all the fairs in Devonshire and Cornwal, and on what days they have been held since the alteration of the stile. To be contintued annually.
