General note
Reduced photostat copy of manuscript map of Tahiti, formerly called Otaheite or King George III Island.
The Royal Society accepted Cook to convey the scientific staff of the expedition to observe transit of venus due to occur on 3rd June 1769. Commissioned as lieutenant he departed England in the Endeavour on 25th August 1768. The stay on Tahiti ended on 9th August 1769....
