William J. Palmer was a singing pupil of Isaac Nathan, for whose "extraordinary soprano voice" Nathan wrote two special arrangements: 'Angels ever bright and fair' from Handel's Theodora, and 'Lungi dal caro bene' by Giuseppi Sarti.
Palmer first appeared in a concert given by the St Mary's Choral Society, directed by Nathan, on 24 November 1851,...
