Presented to the University of Sydney Archives by Mrs J. R. Moodie, granddaughter of Henry Chamberlain Russell in 1984, and transferred to the Mitchell Library in 1989.
Administrative / Biographical history
Henry Chamberlain Russell was born at West Maitland, New South Wales, in March 1836. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 1859 and was associated with the University for the rest of his life, eventually becoming Vice-Chancellor. In 1870 he was appointed the Government Astronomer, in which position he observed the transit of Venus in 1874....
