David Ireland was born in 1927 in Lakemba in south-western Sydney, New South Wales. He is the author of ten novels, three of which have won the Miles Franklin Literary Award: 'The Unknown Industrial Prisoner', 'The Glass Canoe' and 'A Woman of the Future'.
