W. G. Broughton, 1788-1853, was born in Westminster and ordained deacon and priest in 1818. He was appointed Archdeacon of New South Wales in 1829, and became the first Anglican Bishop of Australia in 1836. When the See was divided in 1847 he was made Bishop of Sydney. He died in London in 1853
