According to Dr James Broadbent, Historic Houses Trust of N.S.W., the trunk is lined with paper that orginated from China.

"The first owner of this travelling trunk (is said) to have been Governor Macquarie. Then , Rev. R. Cartwright, Colonial Chaplain. Next, Rev. J. A. Waddell, the Chaplain's nephew, who gave it to Miss S. Cartwright, the Chaplain's grand-daughter; year 1932" -- engraved on brass plaque on lid
"Ann Cartwright the gift of her Mother. August 1830" --...
