Ocimum basilicum L. var BR-1 has 2n=48 somatic chromosomes, and var. Foglia di Lattuga shows 2n=48 and2n=72 mitotic chromosomes. Chromosome length not exceeds 3 μm. 8-OH-quinoline was more effective in induction of well-spread mitotic chromosomes.
