In this article we show that hypomorphic loss-of-function alleles of the JIL-1 histone H3S10 kinase are strong suppressors of position effect variegation (PEV) of the w super(m)4allele and that lack of JIL-1 activity can counteract the effect of the dominant enhancer E(var)2-1 on PEV.
