Bile acids have been reported to act as tumor promoters in the colon, most probably via generation of reactive oxygen species. Addition of the antioxidative compound, chlorogenic acid to the diet clearly reduced tumor induction by deoxycholic acid, which is present at relatively high concentrations in coffee.
