The authors show that chronic neonatal hypoxia reduces GABA

receptor–mediated signaling to oligodendrocyte precursor cells in the cerebellar white matter and enhances their proliferation, delays oligodendrocyte maturation and disrupts myelination. Following hypoxia, treatment with a GABA uptake blocker restores myelination.
