Valerie M. Cox was born in Sydney, ca. 1897. Her father was Dr Arthur Brookes Cox and her mother was Laura Richmond Campbell from Rosemont. She had a brother Nigel. She was a member of the Women's Pioneer Society, the Royal Australian Historical Society and a foundation member of the Women's Committee of the National Trust (NSW).
