John Mathews Jefferson (grandfather of donor) set up a store at Fernshaw which was later expanded into a hotel and stood beside the Watts River. It can be seen at lower right in photograph "First Glimpse of Fernshaw" / by J. W. Lindt, p.2 of album -- information from donor
