Collection history
'Catalogus Insectorum' was offered for sale by bibliographer Rolf Du Rietz of Swedish antiquarian bookseller Thulins Antikvariat to Docent Bengt-Olof Landin, Zoological Institute, Lund in September 1962. He states that the catalogue previously belonged to the Swedish scientist Gabriel Marklin (1777-1857).
Administrative / Biographical history
Daniel Solander (1733-1782), Swedish naturalist, was invited by Joseph Banks to join the scientific staff of the Endeavour in 1768. Later he became Banks' secretary and librarian making further expeditions with him to the Isle of Wight, Scotland and Iceland. Later Solander was appointed Keeper of Natural History at the British Museum.
