Administrative / Biographical history

Samuel Marsden, 1764-1838, came to Australia in 1794 as assistant to the chaplain, Reverend R. Johnson. As well as engaging in church and missionary activities, Marsden was also interested in farming and sheep breeding. In 1807 he owned nearly 3000 acres of land in the Parramatta district and over 1000 sheep
