Objects - 14.8 (including handle) x 5 cm. at widest part - 1 silver trowel with ivory handle. Diamond shaped blade has zig-zag decoration around rim. At base is engraved an open book surmounted by squares and compass. At tip, an engraved eye.

This trowel was presented to Erskine on his departure from Sydney. In 1825 he rejoined his regiment in Madras, India, but died four days after arrival. Reference: 'Stories in Silver' exhibition, State Library of New South Wales, 1996.
