Attributions / Conjectures

In the background is Kirribilli Point. Painted there on the waterfront of that point, reading right to left, is Wotonga now Admiralty House, Woodlands (depicted as a 2 storey house ) and Beulah. Wotonga was built 1842/43 and Beulah 1843/44; see Admiralty House / J M Kerr. National Trust, 1987.

Presented by Colonel Barnett N. Anley, 1935, who believed his mother had painted it.

Administrative / Biographical history

Attribution to Harriot Anley is from family donor. Mrs Anley, however, had left the colony, in 1835, before many structures depicted in the work, such as New Government House, had been built.

Harriot Anley (note the correct spelling), nee Allez, was born on Guernsey and died before 1851. She married Capt. Philip Nicole Anley and they had 13...
