The official Miss Australia Quest was first staged in 1926 by Dowd Associates, manufacturers of Hickory. State finalists were chosen by photograph, before travelling to Melbourne for the announcement of the national winner. In 1954 the Quest became a fundraising event for The Spastic Centre of New South Wales -- Exhibition caption, 1997
