Administrative / Biographical history
John Lovering was born in Ilfracombe on 15 August 1862. Aged 20, he left his home and on 11 December 1882 travelled by train to Plymouth. He departed Plymouth on 17 December 1882 on the second voyage of the iron sailing ship Nerbudda, arriving in Sydney on 28 March 1883. He kept a daily diary recording details of the journey.
