Administrative / Biographical history
Peat Island was a large residential centre for people with an intellectual disability located on the lower reaches of the Hawkesbury River, about 50 kilometres north of Sydney. In 1983, it was recommended that the Peat Island facility should be closed, the facility was decommissioned in October 2010.
