Administrative / Biographical history
In 1901, the six self-governing British colonies became the Commonwealth of Australia. Tasmania was the colony whose population most strongly supported Federation in the 1898 and 1899 referendums, and it is possible this photograph originated in Tasmania as the attributes appear more abundant than the others.
