These two portrait sketches were executed for an exhibition at the Parliamentary Library, July 1985, to commemorate the centenary of the births of Ben Chifley and John Curtin. These sketches were reproduced from photographs on Australia Post commemorative envelopes.

John Curtin (1885-1945) was Australia’s 14th Prime Minister and is widely regarded as one of the greatest. His achievement rests on his leadership of the nation during much of World War II. Curtin died in office just six weeks before the end of the war in the Pacific.
