Personal log mainly in Bligh's hand. This volume covers the voyage from Tahiti to the British West Indies, the return to Deptford on 7 August 1793, and the paying off of the ships' company on 6 September 1793. On the return voyage Bligh took the opportunity to chart and describe any islands he passed. As there were so many he gave them letters and numbers rather than names. Bligh also made detailed notes on the anthropology of the islands of Fiji and Torres Strait. Includes a land profile of Mayorga Island (4 August 1792, p. 23). The log records attacks by Islanders (6 and 11 September 1792); meeting Mr Timotheus Wanjon in Coupang, Timor and hearing about the wreck of HMS Pandora and the escape of William Bryant and other convicts from Botany Bay; descriptions of ports of call - St Helena (17-27 December 1792), St Vincent (23 -30 January 1793), Jamaica (5 February-15 June 1793); report from the gardeners James Wiles and Christopher Smith (pp. 191,193); inventories of plants collected and landed for the whole voyage (p. 282). Also includes an account of plant species and number landed for HM Garden at Kew (pp. 299-300).
