CROFT - J. Leroy, age 94, Pioneer Resident of Delray Beach, Florida died on Thursday, October 5, 2000. Mr. Croft was born on December 8, 1905 in White Springs, Florida to Lucius and Gabriela (Goff) Croft. He had been an area resident for the past 75 years after coming to Delray Beach in 1924 at the age of 18 with his family from Sebring, Florida. Mr. Croft was of Baptist faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Delray Beach. He was among the Delray Beach "first families" that have been honored by the Delray Beach Chamber Of Commerce, which he has been a member and past President. He was concerned with preserving old Florida history, especially relating to Delray Beach by serving and being a Life Member of the Delray Beach Historical Society and served as City Councilman for 6 years as well as being the Mayor of Delray Beach in 1958. His desire to better the community led him to join the Delray Beach Kiwanis where he had 41 years with perfect attendance. Other memberships include Delray Lodge #1770. Fraternal Order Of The Elks, founding member of the Downtown Development Authority and was Past President of the Bethesda Hospital Association. Mr. Croft married his Wife Bettye (Nordquest) Croft in 1934 and she survives. In 1965, the Croft's built Ace Hardware in Delray Beach, which they operated together until their retirement in 1970. He had been the owner of the Chevron Gas station on Atlantic Avenue and also operated a taxi service for several years. Mr. Croft's Civic accomplishments have been numerous and his drive to keep Delray Beach the "garden spot of Florida" will lone be remembered. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 66 years , Bettye Croft; three brothers, Victor (Dimple) Croft of Niceville, FL, R.C. (Mayme) Croft of High Springs, FL and George Croft of Lantana, FL. Five nieces, Patricia, Mary Alice, Bettye, Janice and Carolyn. Four nephews, Dennis, Kenneth, Darryl and David. Mr. Croft was predeceased by one sister, Etha Merrit and one nephew, Leroy "Bud" Merrit. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. October 11, 2000 at the SCOBEE- IRELAND-POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 300 N.E. Fifth Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida, with Reverend Neil Hickem officiating. Interment will follow at the Delray Beach Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Perovskite photovoltaics have been shown to recover, or heal, after radiation damage. Here, we deconvolve the effects of radiation based on different energy loss mechanisms from incident protons which induce defects or can promote efficiency recovery. We design a dual dose experiment first exposing devices to low-energy protons efficient in creating atomic displacements. Devices are then irradiated with high-energy protons that interact differently. Correlated with modeling, high-energy protons (with increased ionizing energy loss component) effectively anneal the initial radiation damage, and recover the device efficiency, thus directly detailing the different interactions of irradiation. We relate these differences to the energy loss (ionization or non-ionization) using simulation. Dual dose experiments provide insight into understanding the radiation response of perovskite solar cells and highlight that radiation-matter interactions in soft lattice materials are distinct from conventional semiconductors. These results present electronic ionization as a unique handle to remedying defects and trap states in perovskites.
Initial reports suggest unique radiation tolerance of perovskite solar cells. Here, the authors expose both n-i-p and p-i-n devices to low- and high-energy protons, providing a direct proof of radiation-induced efficiency recovery via tuning radiation-matter interactions in the devices.

Unraveling radiation damage and healing mechanisms in halide perovskites using energy-tuned dual irradiation dosing

Perovskite photovoltaics are attractive for both terrestrial and space applications. Although terrestrial conditions require durability against stressors such as moisture and partial shading, space poses different challenges: radiation, atomic oxygen, vacuum and high-temperature operation. Here we demonstrate a silicon oxide layer that hardens perovskite photovoltaics to critical space stressors. A 1-μm-thick silicon oxide layer evaporated atop the device contacts blocks 0.05 MeV protons at fluences of 10

Perovskite photovoltaics are promising for space applications, but their reliability needs to be addressed. Now, Kirmani et al. present a 1-μm-thick silicon oxide that affords protection against protons, alpha particles and atomic oxygen.
