"I think it's the most beautiful building on Broadway," [Meg Salyer] said. "I couldn't believe that all of these buildings in what I considered to be walking distance to downtown were sitting vacant at the time." Built in 1919, the five-story blond brick Magnolia Petroleum Building was once the Oklahoma headquarters for what was one of the largest oil pipeline companies in the region. The company was once known as "Big Maggie," [Jay Hannah] said. Magnolia became an affiliate of Standard Oil in 1925 and the company was later absorbed into Mobil. "Were it not for the early leadership of a few key developers, who knows, it could have been a missed opportunity," [Bob Blackburn] said. "It was rare at that time to see the potential in a historic building."
