Blue Lake, Adelaide trip

Two albums of photographs of time spent in New Zealand, mainly the Rotorua area. Images include geysers, mountain scenery and Maori village life.

Large album titled "Rotorua". 241 pages. 121 black and white photographs, including some hand drawn village maps and music.

Inscription on first page: "Sailed from New Zealand, November 17, 1902 per A & A Line, S.S. Sierra, 6000 tons. Arrive in Auckland 5am Friday 21st November. Remain in Auckland, then on to Rotorua, Monday. Leave for home from Roto, leave from Auckland per S.S. Ventura. A & A Line".

The album is an exercise book containing photographs which have been inserted in the pages through corner slits. It has diary entries and descriptions on pages opposite each photograph. Some pages are blank. The handwriting has been attributed to Samuel Cocks by the donor.

Smaller album, also an exercise book is untitled. No page numbers. 91 black and white photographs. Images have inscriptions but no diary notes.

In the titles, Samuel Cocks has used Maori words with definitions wherever appropriate. Some Maori's have been identified with their names.

18 loose photographs, including an image of George William Cocks (left) and possibly, Ralph Seldon or Robert Sidney Cocks, with inscriptions on verso.
