18-28 December 1774 Journal of HMS Resolution: Fair copy in Cook’s hand of part of his journal, describing the passage from Cape Deseado to Cape Horn. 6ff. 32cm. Some pages headed in a different hand. [Photocopy of p. 7 is at p. 91. Hakluyt Society Journal, vol.2 p. cxxiv: ‘This MS. is the original of the corresponding part of the Palliser Hudson MS.’ See note in MSF 1n.]

Pages 17-50 
[ca. 1776] Draft of the ‘General Introduction’ for the published account of Cook’s second voyage: a copy in a clerk’s hand of DLADD MS 27889 f.11-21v; with further deletions and alterations both by Cook and his editor Douglas [See notes at MSF 1n]. Manuscript is in two sections: ‘General Introduction’ (pp. 33-50) [probably not by Cook, but with marginal critical comments by him. Compare with DL Q77/25 pp. ix-xxiii for printed text]. The second part ‘Introduction’ (pp. 17-32) has the last five pages in Cook’s hand, which include comments on the conventions of time and position adopted, Hodges’ views, a tribute to his friends, and a brief summary of his career.
