Stuart Alexander Donaldson - papers, 1829-1857

Correspondence, receipts, and notes. Letters are addressed to Donaldson whilst in London and Sydney. The first part of the volume contains letters from relatives, friends, and business associates (including Walter Scott) regarding travel, general news, business ventures, transport of cattle and goods, descriptions of the state of raising cattle in Glenelg Victoria and trade between Van Diemen's Land, and a testimonial as to character reference. The second part contains letters to Donaldson in his various office bearing capacities and political life largely seeking favours, promotions, or employment. Also includes a notice for a meeting of the Trustees of the Australian Museum, 1857 announcing estimates for the extension of the Museum building; and invitation from Lady Gipps.
