According to the summaries this test saw the introduction of legside bowling by the English in this series. Don Bradman resumed his position in the team after missing the first test. Australia's captain, Bill Woodfull, again won the toss and elected to bat in front of a crowd of approximately 50,000 people. Harold Larwood and Bill Voce opened the bowling for England as Voce persisted with a leg theory form of attack. Jack Fingleton and Bill Woodfull were determined to keep their wickets intact and consequently scoring was slow. Only 42 runs were scored when lunch was taken. At the time this figure was a pre-lunch low record. Australia went on to score 228 with Jack Fingleton top scoring with 83. England scored 169 in their first innings with Bill O'Reilly and Tim Wall taking 9 wickets between them.

Don Bradman was the standout batsman in Australia's second innings scoring 103 from a total of 191. The English batsmen struggled against the spin bowling of Bill O'Reilly and Bert Ironmonger and were all out for 139. Bill O'Reilly taking five wickets in each innings for Australia. Australia won the second test by 111 runs.
