Thomas Bryant Wilson diary written at Lord Howe Island, 30 October 1878-11 October 1896

Wilson's diary describes events on Lord Howe Island including his observation of Halley's Comet in September 1882 and the arrival, in December 1882, of a government survey party to observe the Transit of Venus. The diary gives a detailed account of Wilson's horticultural activities which included the cultivation of fruit and vegetables, and documents the development of the Kentia palm seed industry. The volume includes financial accounts, especially for palm seed sales, and the names and addresses of nurseries and other customers for palm seeds in many parts of the world. It also includes a copy of a letter from Wilson to Thomas Icely, 16 May 1889, proposing the cultivation of flowers for perfume on the Island, and a copy of Mary Field's will (for which Wilson was the executor), 1881.
