The model of the Globe Theatre was made to celebrate the rebuilding and reconstruction of Shakespeare's original Globe Theatre. It is unique and was conceived by the Garrard designers in consultation with Diana Devlin of the Shakespeare Globe Trust. Made in sterling silver, silver gilt and fully hallmarked, it weighs approximately 280 troy ounces and took approximately 1000 hours to complete. Made entirely in the Garrard workshops it demonstrates the entire gamut of the silversmith's skills including modelling, casting, polishing and hand raising and required several specialists to craft it. The drama unfolding on the stage is the assassination scene from Shakespeare's `Julius Caesar' and part of the model can be removed and the stage lit so that a birds-eye view of the stage can be obtained. The model is mounted on an oak plinth with a drawer containing a bound copy of the tragedy.
