67. Wallendbeen, Main Southern line.  Original silo built in 1929 and extended in 1934.  This is a type S024 silo with a capacity of 2,400 tonnes (90,000 bushels).  Complete dwarfed by more recent 6 bin silo.  On edge of small town in undulating country. 19/3/04

68. Cootamundra, Main Southern line.  Large diameter steel silos alongside bulkheads of varying ages, within sight of Cootamundra Railway Station.  Rail Centre. 19/3/04

69. Illabo, main southern line.  Original 6,800 tonne silo built in 1922. Known as a Metcalf (after American designer J. S. Metcalf).  52 of these silos were built in NSW between 1918 and 1929.  they differed in configuration depending on capacity.  Opposite small village (Australia's only railway sprial is located 10 km NE of Illabo. 19/3/04

70. Marinna, main southern line. Metcalf type silo of 1400 tonne capacity built in 1925. No additions but still operating. Location only in gently undulating country.  19/3/04

71. Junee (sub-terminal), Main Southern line. Subterminal and service centre on the outside of the town of Junee.  19/3/04

72. Harefield, main southern line. A typical Metcalf type silo with a workhouse of 6 bins with internal diameters of 15ft plus an external bin of 38ft diameter and height of 70ft.  52 Metcalf silos were built between 1918 and 1929, of varying capacities.  This is a S027 (2700 tonne) built in 1922. Location only.  19/3/04

73. Shepherds, main southern line. Original silo known as a S016 built in 1932 of 1600 tonne capacity (60000 bushels). Bulkhead alongside of 15000 tonne capacity built by Leeton Steel & Vehicular Works in 1968. Location only.  19/3/04

74. Ladysmith, Wagga Wagga to Tumbarumba line. Located in small village outside Wagga.  Station preserved & section of line still used by local enthusiasts although main line abandoned. 800 tonne capacity silo (type S008) now privately owned and used to store stock feed.  Built in 1931. Adjacent bulkhead added later. 20/3/04

75. Uranquinty, main southern line. Original Metcalf silo of 4100 tonne capacity built in 1920, plus a 8500 tonne extension in 1973. More recent bins in corrugated steel. In small town with branch line to Kywong - now disused. 20/3/04

76. The Rock, main southern line. A Metcalf silo of 9500 tonne capacity built in 1920. One of 52 Metcalf's built between 1918 and 1929.  Original open shed nearby would have stored bagged wheat before introduction of bulk silo storage.  The Rock was settled in 1847, then called Kingston.  Name changed after the ridge 6km west of town which stands 364 metres above surrounding plain.  20/3/04

77. Henty, main southern line. A typical Metcalf silo, 52 of which were built between 1918 and 1929.  The workhouse of 6 bins includes lifts and elevator machinery to distribute different grains to various bins. The capacity of a Metcalf silo varies depending on the number of external bins.  Henty is known as the 'home of the header'.  It hosts one of the largest field days in NSW.  21/3/04

78. Yerong Creek, main southern line. Metcalf silo of 4100 tonne capacity comprising 6 bin workhouse (internal diameter 15 foot) and 2 external bins of 38 foot diameter and 70 feet high. Nearby a D150 bulkhead built in 1969 of 15000 tonne capacity.  In small town of yerong Creek on Olympic Highway.  21/3/04

79. Culcairn, main southern line.  Metcalf silo (5400 tonnes) originally built in 1929. Extra 9800 tonne silos added in 1969 along with tall elevator structure. 22/3/04

80. Walla Walla, Culcairn to Corowa line.  A Metcalf silo, named after American designer J. S. Metcalf (helped design the Sydney Terminal).  Original silo of 6800 tonne capacity built in 1920. On defunct branch line in town of Walla Walla. 22/3/04

81. Burrumbuttock, Culcairn to Corowa line.   Still operating as a storage facility but in private ownership.  Located about 4 km from the village of Burrumbuttock on abandoned line.  Site of original station but buildings demolished.  A Metcalf silo of 5400 tonne capacity.  22/3/04

82. Brocklesby, Culcairn to Corowa line. Located on defunct railway line in small town of Brocklesby.   Large Metcalf silo of 6800 tonne capacity built in 1922. Silo linked to later bulkhead of even greater capacity. 22/3/04

83. Balldale, Culcairn to Corowa line.  Located in small town of Balldale on abandoned line.  One of 52 `Metcalf' silos built between 1918 & 1929. This 8200 tonne silo consists of a 6 bin workhouse plus 5 external bins.  The external bins have an internal diameter of 38 ft and a height of 70 ft.  22/3/04

84. Hopefield, Culcairn to Corowa line.  Locality only in flat country.  An 8200 tonne capacity Metcalf silo identical to Balldale silo nearby. A six bin workhouse houses elevator machinery that distributes grain from the loading dock to bins in the workhouse and the external bins (5). Located on defunct railway line. 22/3/04

85. Corowa, Culcairn to Corowa line.  Located on abandoned line in town of Corowa. Silo originally associated with flour mill (Allied Mills).  Mill now abandoned but silo still operating (Graincorp).  22/3/04

86. Holbrook, Culcairn to Holbrook line. A decommissioned silo on an abandoned  branch line. A Metcalf silo (4100 tonne capacity) built in 1924 and extended in 1955. 22/3/04
