Inscribed on verso: "The pencilled lines from G2 (Villers Brettoneux) denote advance of 14th & 18th Inf. Bde. to beyond Peronne on the fortress of the elbow of the River Somme. Commenced on 8-8-1918 ... I was attached to 60th Bn. as Signal Officer."

Inscribed on verso: "C4 Sivry where I left the Battalion 54th on Boxing Day 1918 with Lt. Carrick ... After an inadequate leave I was placed in charge of a camp at Weymouth. Had to fight to get home."
