The volume contains astronomical observations and survey observations from three different expeditions, as outlined below.

Beginning of volume: survey data, 9 January (1832) at "large river" (Gwydir River), on exploring expedition to the interior of New South Wales (first expedition); survey sketch dated 29 December (1831) at "Place of embarkation", Namoi River.

Astronomical observations, 19 March-5 October (1846) (fourth expedition); and observations from 1835 and 1832, as outlined below. Observations for 21 October-15 December 1846 are recorded amongst 1832 observations, as noted below.

Astronomical observations from the 1835 expedition to explore the course of the River Darling (second expedition), in reverse chronological order, 12 August 1835 (Fort Bourke)-11 April 1835 (Mt Juson (Mount Gamdri), Crokers Range).

Astronomical observations dated 24 February 1832-15 December 1831 (in reverse chronological order to end of volume), first expedition. Two pages of 1846 observations (21 October-15 December) are recorded between observations for 2 February 1832 and 25 January 1832.

Includes memorandum initialled and dated by Edmund Kennedy, 12 April 1846.
