Series 08: Ludwig Leichhardt notebook comprising notes, manuscripts and letters, 1842-1847

Ludwig Leichhardt collection, 1832-1846, with associated papers to 1931

Notebook used by Leichhardt to enter, under various headings, meteorological reports, observations, extracts from books read, remarks made by others especially by the Rev. W.B. Clarke, lists of books lent and journey expenses. Notes are in German, English and French.
Leichhardt later used the blank pages to make copies of letters sent, 8 Sept. 1846-17 Oct. 1847, and undated (pages 46-56, 191-193, 195-204). Correspondents include W.B. Clarke, Daniel Bunce, John Roper and William Westgarth.
The notebook includes a draft of Leichhardt's lectures to the Sydney School of Arts, 18 and 25 Aug. 1846, on his Port Essington expedition. It also includes the manuscript of his 'Beitrage zur Geologie von Australien' (pages 235-248, 252-262, 282-298, 302-330).
Includes drawings and newspaper cuttings.
