‘Prison life at St. Stefano by A. C. Nichols’. Able Seaman/Petty Officer Alexander C. Nichols was from Queensland and joined the RAN in 1912 at the age of 19. He was with John Wheat on the AE2 and both worked on the line at Haçikiri, about 12 miles from Belemedik, where they made their first escape attempt while prisoner of the Turks
