Jean Garling, balletomane, was born at Gilgandra, N.S.W., in 1907, the youngest child of Arthur Frederick Garling, shopkeeper, and his wife Minnie Christina, nee Marshall. Her great-great-grandfather, Frederick Garling (1745-1848), who had arrived in N.S.W. in 1815, was the senior of the first two solicitors appointed to the Supreme Court of N.S.W....
