General note

Two folios (between pages 9 and 11) have been cut out of the sketchbook at an unknown date, before receipt by Mitchell Library.
The pencil sketches are unfinished. Two are executed on the interleaving paper and one is on the sketchbook paper between drawings 17 and 18.
"D.S. Mitchell" signature appears on front endpaper

Administrative / Biographical history

John Arthur Guy, house painter and photographer, was a son of John Waln Guy and Eliza Bottomley. He emigrated to Sydney from England around 1856 and opened a photographic gallery with his brother James two years later.
