George Gilbert joined the Pacific journey on the Resolution in 1776 as able-seaman and was later appointed midshipman. His father Joseph had been its master on a previous Pacific voyage. The journal was written some time after his return, likely to have been written in the first half of the 1780's. The date of his death is unknown but he can be tra...
