Claremont, in the Sydney suburb of Rose Bay, was built in 1851-1852 for Bristol born Sydney businessman George Thorne (1810-1891) who had migrated to Australia in 1840. He married Elizabeth Ann Bisdee in Hobart in 1842. They had 10 children, including Rosalie Ann. George Thorne retained ownership of Claremont until early 1879 but the family did not...
