Administrative / Biographical history

Peter Heywood, a midshipman on HMS Bounty, stood trial at Spithead in Sept. 1792 for his part in the Bounty mutiny. Heywood's well connected family lobbied intensely for his release, particularly his sister Nessy and uncles J.M. Heywood and Commodore Thomas Pasley. Heywood rose to the rank of captain before his retirement in 1816.
