Louis Macey, a former member of the R.A.A.F, joined A.N.A.R.E. (Australian National Antarctic Research Ecpeditions) in 1947. His first expeditions were to Heard Island in 1947-1948 and Macquarie island in 1949 as a Radio Supervisor.
