Notes

Signature / Inscriptions

Inscribed "Port Jackson with the town of Sydney N.S.W." in lower left. Inscribed "The Waratah" in lower left, referring to that flower which appears in the image immediately above the word. It is inscribed on the back "From Woorianda. 30 Septbr '53"

Attributions / Conjectures

This work is unsigned. It was possibly painted by a student of John Skinner Prout. Skinner Prout came to Sydney in December 1840. During this time he lectured and privately instructed in art. In 1844 he moved to Hobart before returning to England in 1848.
