Market rights and tolls. Return to an order of the Honourable the House of Commons, dated 26 February 1886;--for, return "giving the following particulars in respect of each municipal borough in England and Wales, so far as they can be obtained from the local authorities:-- Whether any market is held in the borough; to whom the market rights belong; and, if to the corporation, whether acquired by charter, by prescription, or by purchase, or established under the Local Government Acts, the Public Health Act, 1875, or any local act; the amount of gross receipts from the market during the year 1885; whether the market tolls are-- (a.) leased to the corporation; and, if so, at what rental; (b.) leased to any company; or (c.) leased to any private person; whether the markets, or any of them, are held in the streets of the town; whether any, and what, accommodation on enclosed premises or in open market places has been provided, and by whom, and at what cost:" "and in respect of each Improvement Act district and local government district in England and Wales, so far as they can be obtained from the local authorities:-- whether any market is held in the district; to whom the market rights belong; and, if to the improvement commissioners or local board, whether established under the Local Government Acts, or the Public Health Act, 1875, or any local act, or otherwise acquired; the amount of the gross receipts during the year 1885 from the markets, and whether the market tolls, &c., are-- (a.) leased to the Improvement Commissioners or local board; and, if so, at what rental; (b.) leased to any company; (c.) leased to any private person; whether the markets, or any of them, are held in the streets of any place in the district; whether any, and what, accommodation on enclosed premises or in open market places has been provided; by whom; and at what cost:" "and in respect of the contributory places in each rural sanitary district in England and Wales, so far as they can be obtained from the local authorities:-- the name of each contributory place in which markets are held; with the following particulars in each case:-- the approximate aggregate receipts during the year 1885 in such market; to whom the market rights belong; whether the tolls are leased to any person; whether the markets are held in the streets; whether any, and what, accommodation on enclosed premises or in open market places has been provided; and by whom; and at what cost."
