Filelfo (1398-1481), a great Italian humanist, became secretary to the Venetian consul-general in Constantinople in 1419. He taught at Bologna and Florence, where he lectured on the principal Greek and Latin authors; he translated portions of Aristotle, Plutarch, Xenophon, and Lysias from the Greek.
