A new pocket dictionary; or, English expositor [electronic resource] : Containing I. A complete course of spelling for the use of schools II. A spelling dictionary; including seventeen thousand of the most useful words in the language. III. A clear and concise explanation of all the words, except those which are familiar to the meavest capacity: to be read in lessons, or consulted occasionally. IV. A sure and easy help to pronunciation, by long, short, and broad accents over the vowels; by figures to express the number of syllables in words where they are doubtful; and, by inserting the word in crotchets according to the found. V. The young scholar's guide to English parsing, exhibiting all the parts of speech by initial letters. With a supplement, for occasional inspection: containing all the uncommon words in Johnson's abridgment, which were omitted in the first alphabet. To which are prefixed, a practical grammar; with directions for reading; the laws of versification; the explanation of prepositions and terminations; and examples of bad English, to be corrected by the rules of syntax.
